FX-2000 Flex Shield System Overview
Introduction
The FX-2000 Flex Shield is an industrial control system (ICS) built on a user customizable platform, powered by the ATmega-2560 microcontroller unit (MCU) and easily programmed in the Arduino integrated development environment (IDE). Its flexible modular architecture allows you to quickly assemble rugged control and monitor solutions for automation components such as, motors, relays, and sensors, using FX-2000 series fault-protected, galvanically isolated I/O and data communications modules.
The flexible modular architecture extends to the power-supply system as well, choose DC power operation using the built-in DC power supply, or choose AC uninterruptible power supply (UPS) or solar-electric power supply operation.
Off-the-shelf plugin modular hardware and software built in the widely supported Arduino integrated development environment (IDE) lets you deliver control solutions in hours—not weeks.

FX-2000 Flex Shield System Hardware at a Glance
The FX-2000 Flex Shield system shown on the right is fully configured with fourteen modules installed on the FX-2100 universal module chassis (UMC), powered by the FX-2150 AC uninterruptible power supply (UPS), and mounted on the FX-2110 Mounting Plate.
The compact system measures 9.5″ L x 9.5″ W and 4″ H (5.7″ H with the FX-2120 Protective Cover installed) making it ideally suited for small space applications such as congested factory environments, solar-electric-powered systems, vehicular and maritime platforms.
Flexible user mounting options include:
- Top-Hat DIN Rail EN50022 35 mm
- Surface Screw Mount
- Bench-Top Rubber Bumpers

Secure Field Connectivity
FX-2000 system components are equipped with industry recognized Phoenix Contact connectors. These rugged screw-flange plugin connectors provide a secure, vibration-resistant wire interface to field equipment circuits and facilitate rapid module changes.
System Cooling
For operation in high ambient temperature environments or continuous duty-cycle high current operation, the FX-2120 Protective Cover provides forced-air cooling for all FX-2000 series I/O modules. The cooling systems unique air flow architecture draws outside air from the top air inlets to cool heat-generating components, exhausting the warm air through the side connector ports.

Diagnostic LED Indicators
Dimmable LED indicators display system status and GPIO logic state status. The GPIO bicolor LEDs provide real-time diagnostics of CPU bus activity on each I/O module and are an invaluable in observing system operation and troubleshooting software problems.
